Nigel Anderson BA (Hons)
Police Superintendent (Rtd)
I joined Manchester & Salford Police in 1970 which later became Greater Manchester Police. I obtained a degree at the local university attending on a part time basis often after completing a night shift. I rose through the ranks and retired in the rank of superintendent operating at the British Home Office. During my career I worked in the obscene publications department, the hush puppies (a small undercover licencing squad) and 3 vice squads one of which was the largest outside London which I commanded for over 3 years. My last post in the police saw me carry out over 150 presentations across the UK seeking to win the hearts and minds of senior police officers to take on a new national project.
I was fortunate to win a number of national and international awards during my career and undertook a host of secondments including to the USA, Canada and the Royal Navy. In 1994 I founded an award-winning charity looking after the interests of disabled and disadvantaged children & adults. I am currently the president and a trustee. In 2018 we won the highest award that can be bestowed on a British charity, the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Through my charity work I have attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace and met the Queen and I was a guest at HRH Prince Harrys’ wedding to Meghan Markle at Windsor castle.
Home to the most famous couple in the world, Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. More than 50,000 people visit the Palace each year as guests to State banquets, lunches, dinners, receptions and Garden Parties. As one such guest I relate what took place, including protocols and explore the history of the building and some of the occupants.
Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. It is notable for its long association with the English and later British royal family and for its architecture. The original castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror. Since the time of Henry I, it has been used by the reigning monarch and is the longest-occupied palace in Europe. I explore the history of the castle
Haunted Houses of England
England is awash with paranormal activity. Whether it’s fabled ghost stories from centuries past or haunted houses that have lain abandoned for decades, there’s something insidious lurking in Britain…I once spent 24 hours in England’s most haunted house with 9 other people for a charity event. Although I approached the occasion with an open mind what took place could not be explained. Attend this lecture if you dare.
The wedding of HRH Prince Harry to Meghan Markle
Looking at the most recent UK Royal wedding, presenting my personal experiences of being a guest at the wedding of HRH Prince Harry to Meghan Markle.
Vice Squads of England
A gritty presentation peppered with humour and a host of recollections of what goes on behind closed doors. I visit the history of vice squads, the types of offences committed, investigated and some weird and wonderful encounters that you would not believe.
Identity theft is widespread, and it is growing. Bogus charities are on the increase. Have you ever been fishing or phishing? This presentation takes you behind the scenes of such activities and also will take a light hearted look at some of the not so successful frauds attempted around the world.
